A throwback photo shared by Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has gone viral, leaving fans amazed at how far he has come.
The photo, posted on X (formerly Twitter), dates back to 2005 and shows a much younger Adekunle Gold sitting beside a roadside kiosk opposite Lagos State Polytechnic (Laspotech), appearing to be fast asleep. “Taken in 2005, 20 years ago,” he captioned the image.
The now-viral photo immediately sparked reactions from fans and followers, many of whom were inspired by the singer’s transformation from humble beginnings to stardom.
“No woman was there for him but today…” one user commented.
“Life is really full of surprises. This guy is now a star,” another added.
Some even reminisced about Adekunle Gold’s early rise to fame, when he gained recognition for photoshopping himself into celebrity pictures, including those of Tiwa Savage and Toolz, back in 2014.
That same year, he released Sade, a soulful highlife-inspired track that earned him a deal with Olamide’s YBNL Nation. His debut album Gold dropped in 2016 and climbed to number 7 on the Billboard World Albums chart.
Now 38 years old, Adekunle Gold has since released multiple successful albums, including:
-
About 30 (2018)
-
Afro Pop Vol. 1 (2020)
-
Catch Me If You Can (2022)
-
Tequila Ever After (2023)
The award-winning singer is married to fellow artist Simi. The couple tied the knot in 2019 and welcomed their daughter, Adejare, in May 2020.
In 2022, Adekunle Gold opened up about living with sickle cell disease, a deeply personal journey that led him to launch a foundation dedicated to advocacy and support for others with the condition.
His story is a powerful reminder that humble beginnings don’t define one’s future—and that with resilience and talent, greatness is possible.
