Popular Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has shared how missing out on a chance to represent Nigeria in Big Brother Africa unexpectedly led to the biggest breakthrough in his career.
Speaking during a recent episode of The Culture League podcast, Timini opened up about how he was among the final five selected to join the reality show years ago, even hiring a social media manager in preparation. However, he never received the final call to join the house.
“They asked us to pack our bags and wait, but I wasn’t picked,” he recalled. “I think Tayo went that year.”
Rather than viewing the disappointment as a failure, Timini believes it was all part of a divine plan. That same year, he landed a major role in MTV Shuga Naija—a series that became the launchpad for his acting career.
“That was the year I did MTV Shuga, and MTV Shuga is what launched my career to who I am today.”
Timini emphasized that while missed opportunities may feel like setbacks in the moment, they can often serve as blessings in disguise.
“Some of those things that I might have gotten would have completely derailed me from where I am today,” he said. “I believe where I am today is ordained by God.”
He encouraged others to remain hopeful even when things don’t go as planned.
“Sometimes when you lose opportunities, you just have to count it as a blessing, dust your feet, and keep on moving.”
Timini’s story is a powerful reminder that closed doors can sometimes lead to even bigger opportunities.
