Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has launched a scathing attack on the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, describing him as the worst Senate President in Nigeria’s history.
While addressing journalists at the gate of the National Assembly on Tuesday—after being denied access to resume plenary—Natasha expressed deep frustration over her treatment, blaming Akpabio for what she called repeated injustices.
“That outburst I had on the floor was just a combination of so many wrongs that Akpabio has meted against me,” she said.
Natasha accused the Senate President of running the National Assembly like a personal empire, likening his leadership style to a “third term governor of Akwa Ibom State.”
“This is much the worst Assembly Nigeria has ever had, and I hope we will not have to suffer this anymore because it tells a lot on the individual,” she continued.
She also compared Akpabio unfavorably to his predecessors:
“We’ve had so many good Senate Presidents like Chuba Okadigbo, David Mark, Bukola Saraki, and even Ahmed Lawan. But this is the worst.”
The embattled senator further claimed that under Akpabio’s leadership, freedom of speech within the Senate has been suppressed, with lawmakers allegedly shut down if their contributions do not align with his preferences.
“You are not allowed to speak. When you try to air your views on certain issues that are critical, you get shut down if it does not conform with what he wants.”
Her comments come amid controversy over her suspension, which she and her supporters have described as unjust and politically motivated.
