Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s inability to rescue Nigeria from what he termed “the prevailing political cankerworms.”
In a resignation letter dated July 30, addressed to the PDP Ward 1 Chairman in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu LGA of Kogi State, Melaye stated:
“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation.”
Dino Melaye, a known political ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, is now a key figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — the newly adopted platform of the emerging opposition coalition.
His departure follows a wave of high-profile PDP exits, including those of Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, and Dele Momodu. Mark, a former Senate President, now serves as the interim national chairman of the ADC.
In a stern warning, Mark urged coalition members to remain loyal to the ADC, insisting there would be no room for anti-party activities going forward.
