Former presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, has paid tribute to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a man of rare integrity who lived and led without being tainted by corruption.
In a reflective article, Adesina shared behind-the-scenes stories that, according to him, showcased Buhari’s principled leadership and modest lifestyle.
Among the revelations, Femi Adesina cited a conversation with former NNPCL Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, who confided that Buhari never requested or accepted a dime from the state-run oil corporation, historically seen as a “gravy train” for past administrations.
He also recalled that the late President’s friends helped pay his children’s school fees, and that Buhari once turned down the gift of an SUV from a contractor.
“President Buhari was an icon, a unique man,” Adesina wrote.
“Perfect? No man is. His shortcomings, as little as they are, have been interred with his bones. The good he did lives after him.”
Femi Adesina further highlighted Buhari’s legacy projects such as the Second Niger Bridge, the Lagos-Ibadan, Enugu-Port Harcourt, and Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressways, all of which he said were built on Buhari’s instruction without fanfare.
The former media aide’s tribute painted a picture of a stoic and disciplined leader, remembered more for what he gave to the nation than what he took from it.
