Conservative commentator Candace Owens is not backing down in the face of a lawsuit from French First Lady Brigitte Macron, labeling the legal action as “goofy” and a “desperate public relations strategy.”
In a new YouTube video released Wednesday, Owens doubled down on her previous claims about Brigitte Macron, taunting both the First Lady and French President Emmanuel Macron.
A spokesperson for Owens defended her remarks, stating:
“Candace Owens is not shutting up. This is a foreign government attacking the First Amendment rights of an American independent journalist.”
The spokesperson also alleged that Owens had repeatedly requested an interview with Brigitte Macron but received no response.
“Brigitte is now trying to bully a reporter into submission,” they said.
On X (formerly Twitter), Owens escalated the rhetoric, posting:
“Brigitte pivots from grooming teenagers to an attempt to groom American courts. LET’S GO.”
The lawsuit references Owens’ history of promoting conspiracy theories, including antisemitic tropes, to boost her online audience—currently 7 million followers on X and 4.5 million subscribers on YouTube.
While a French appeals court recently overturned a similar case, which Owens’ team views as a positive sign, sources close to the Macrons insist that they will not back down from the current legal battle.
