Nigerian media personality and hype man Do2dtun has criticized the Bauchi State Hisbah Board for imposing restrictions on DJs, event planners, and other entertainment-related activities during weddings and social gatherings in the state.
Taking to his official X account, Do2dtun blasted the government and Hisbah authorities for focusing on weddings and entertainment rather than addressing more pressing issues affecting citizens.
“You didn’t ban poverty. You didn’t ban insecurity. You didn’t ban hardship. But the only thing you could ban is DJs and entertainment at weddings?” he wrote.
His comments come in response to the recent announcement by the Bauchi Hisbah Board, which introduced 16 new regulations aimed at curbing what it called “immoral celebrations” at weddings and recreational centers.
Among the newly banned activities are:
-
Cultural displays such as Kawayawade and Aloba
-
Engagement of DJs and gala nights
-
Any form of entertainment deemed to promote indecency
According to the Board, the restrictions were implemented to reduce the increasing rate of divorces in the state, claiming that many marriages lose their “blessings” due to “unholy practices” during celebrations.
Do2dtun’s outburst has sparked heated reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the role of religious enforcement in social matters and the prioritization of moral policing over socio-economic development.
