Nigerian lawyer and social activist Deji Adeyanju has issued a stern warning to controversial online activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), urging him to avoid taking unnecessary risks in the name of activism.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Adeyanju revealed that he has repeatedly advised VDM to be cautious with his actions and rhetoric, but said the social commentator often ignores his counsel.
“I call VDM every time to be careful and stop taking unnecessary risk but he doesn’t listen most of the time,” Adeyanju wrote.
He went further to warn that in the event of any harm befalling Verydarkman, the public sentiment and support may quickly fade, as Nigerians are known to move on swiftly from such incidents.

“If anything happens to you today, everyone has moved on by tomorrow. We only overrate ourselves, Nigerians don’t rate anybody,” he added.
The post has sparked discussions online, with many Nigerians weighing in on the dangers faced by outspoken activists and the fleeting nature of public support.
Verydarkman has become a controversial figure in recent months due to his bold commentaries on societal issues, celebrities, and government affairs — a style that has earned him both admiration and criticism.
I call VDM every time to be careful and stop taking unnecessary risk but he doesn’t listen most of the time. If anything happens to you today, everyone has moved on by tomorrow. We only overrate ourselves, Nigerians don’t rate anybody.
