Social media critic VeryDarkMan (VDM) has reacted to the arrest of controversial entertainer DJ Chicken, saying he understands why security authorities took action, even though he does not believe the content creator was capable of carrying out the threat he made.
Speaking on the matter, VDM said the government could not afford to ignore such a statement because doing so could encourage others to make even more dangerous threats in the future.
“What does the government want to use DJ Chicken to do? You go waste time say na DJ Chicken you wan arrest. I understand the government because if you give DJ Chicken a free pass, someone will say worse tomorrow.
Saying you will unalive the President’s son is a criminal offence. It’s clear he did it for attention. He can’t hurt anybody, just mouth,” he said.
According to VDM, threatening the life of the President’s son is a serious offence that security agencies are obligated to investigate, regardless of who makes the statement.
While admitting that DJ Chicken crossed the line with his comments, he maintained that the entertainer was merely seeking attention and had no real intention of carrying out the threat.
VDM, however, stressed that the law must take its course to discourage others from making similar statements, insisting that although DJ Chicken is “just mouth,” authorities cannot ignore threats directed at public officials or their families.
DJ Chicken was arrested after an old video resurfaced in which he allegedly threatened Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying he would kill him if his father won the presidential election.
Although the video was later deleted, it attracted the attention of security agencies and reportedly led to his arrest in Lagos.
