Nigerian dance legend Kaffy has redefined the narrative around dance, positioning it as more than just performance art but a powerful tool for global influence, wellness, and economic empowerment.
Speaking during a media parley to commemorate her 25th anniversary in the dance industry, Kaffy—born Kafayat Shafau—shared deep insights about her journey, brand, and the often-overlooked power of dance as a professional discipline.
“I don’t believe that as a dancer I cannot be in the same room with Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, or Dangote,” she boldly stated. “I have been in the same room with Dangote and Tony Elumelu—not because I was dancing for them, but because dance is a tool for greater expression.”
Kaffy emphasized that dance is a multifaceted service that society consumes for entertainment, education, health, and wellness. She challenged outdated stereotypes of dancers, explaining that her vision goes far beyond choreography.
“Even if I was dancing, dance is a service that impacts humanity in countless ways. Whether it’s for fitness, therapy, education, or joy, it holds value.”
Reflecting on her groundbreaking career—one that includes breaking the Guinness World Record for longest dance party—Kaffy explained that her brand is not defined by currency but by impact.
“You can’t quantify me in Naira and Kobo or in Dollar, but if you want to look at the system, the entity, and how much I have invested, we are speaking about a multi-trillion dollar entity. That is what the brand Kaffy is.”
She also described her ambition to build a global dance conglomerate, empowering future generations of dancers and creators through her platform.
“For me, going into this journey has shown that I can build a world. And if dance is the tool I have, I can build it with dance.”
