Kaffy Speaks on Struggles of Dating as a Single Mother
Renowned Nigerian dancer, Kafayat Oluwatoyin Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, has opened up about the difficulties she faced in the dating scene as a single mother.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Honest Bunch podcast, the 45-year-old mother of two revealed that a man once told her outrightly that he couldn’t consider dating or marrying her simply because she has children.
Kaffy questioned the widespread stereotypes against single mothers and fathers, emphasizing that being divorced or having children does not automatically make someone less suitable for marriage.
“I have had somebody tell me because I’m a single mother he can’t even think of dating me because I have two children… What makes you think that a woman that has been divorced is not even the better candidate if she had worked on herself? What’s the guarantee that two single people today are not going to be divorced people tomorrow?” she said.
She further challenged the idea that only “fresh” single people make good partners, stressing that many marriages still fail despite both partners being unmarried at the start.
“Both of you are going into the same data that the world has computed for you that over 70 per cent of marriages crash. You are part of the 70 per cent,” she added.
Kaffy was previously married to music director Joseph Ameh, with whom she shares two children.
