Lizzo’s attorneys are pushing for the dismissal of a discrimination and wrongful termination lawsuit filed by former wardrobe assistant Asha Daniels, calling the claims “baseless and meritless.”
In a strongly worded court filing, Lizzo’s legal representatives described Daniels as a “brazen liar” and a “disgruntled former employee with an inflated ego” who is allegedly motivated by personal grudges.
They urged the court to throw out the remaining allegations before the case proceeds to trial.
Daniels’ attorney, Ronald Zambrano, dismissed the filing as a predictable legal maneuver. “We fully expected the defence to file a motion to dismiss. We also fully expect the judge to deny the motion,” he said.
Daniels initially filed the suit in September 2023, alleging that during Lizzo’s European tour, she endured racist and fatphobic remarks, sexual harassment, and disability-based discrimination.
Her complaint came shortly after three former dancers filed a separate lawsuit accusing Lizzo of fostering a hostile work environment. Lizzo has denied all allegations.
While a judge previously dismissed parts of the dancers’ lawsuit, other claims were allowed to proceed. The simger is currently appealing that decision.
“The hardest part about all of this is that none of these things are true,” she said during an appearance on the Baby, This Is Keke Palmer podcast.
“The sexual harassment one is really the one that upsets me the most.”
