South African media personality Minnie Dlamini has spoken candidly about the emotional toll of her divorce from Quinton Jones, revealing how the breakup reshaped both her personal life and professional journey.
In a heartfelt conversation on The Motherhood Podcast hosted by long-time friend Nandi Madida, Minnie opened up about the backlash she faced after going public with her divorce.
“Forget everything I’ve done professionally… Once I announced my divorce, people felt they had the right to disrespect me. It absolutely broke me,” she shared.
Minnie admitted that she never expected to be judged so harshly, especially in the entertainment industry, and expressed disappointment over society’s treatment of divorced women.
“I thought we’d come further as a society, but women are still treated as pariahs when relationships fail,” she said.
While reflecting on her marriage, Minnie revealed she felt the need to shrink herself to make the relationship work.
“I lost a lot of myself in my marriage. I felt like I couldn’t fully be myself,” she said. “Divorce, while painful, gave me a chance to find myself again.”
Describing the process as “difficult, painful, ugly, and messy,” Minnie also touched on the complexities of co-parenting after a breakup.
Despite the pain, she ended her story on a hopeful note:
“You get another shot at love again. You get another shot at life again… and at you again.”
Minnie Dlamini and Quinton Jones, a TV producer, were married in 2017 and share a son. They announced their separation in 2022.
