Joseph Aloba, father of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has opened up in a heartfelt interview about the final moments before his son’s tragic death.

In a revealing conversation with social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), Mr. Aloba detailed the sequence of events that led to Mohbad’s passing, shedding new light on unanswered questions surrounding the singer’s death.

“I Found Blood on His Duvet”

According to Mr. Aloba, Mohbad had received an injection from a nurse shortly before his collapse. He recalled:

“There was a nurse that gave him an injection. After giving him the injection, Mohbad told her not to leave, but she said she wanted to go and collect drip and injection. He told her, ‘Don’t go, don’t go.’ The woman left.”

He said by the time he went upstairs, Mohbad had already collapsed:

“I was downstairs. I did not know all these things. By the time I came upstairs, Mohbad had collapsed. He had struggled, but nobody heard his voice. I found blood on his duvet. I was the one who rushed him to the hospital.”

Rushed to the Hospital on a Motorcycle

Mr. Aloba described the urgency and chaos of that moment:

“I had to stop a bike because the car was with Wunmi (Mohbad’s partner). I climbed the bike, holding Mohbad as we rushed to the hospital. On getting there, they checked him and said he was dead already.”

“I Never Said Naira Marley Killed My Son”

Addressing public speculation, Mr. Aloba clarified his stance on Mohbad’s former label boss, Naira Marley:

“I never said Naira Marley killed my son. Don’t blame Naira Marley for my son’s death. I tried my best to reach him, but everything was in vain. When this issue happened, I wanted to trek to his house, but I was scared because I didn’t know what I would meet there.”

He also acknowledged the role of VeryDarkMan in amplifying his voice:

“I am very happy. This VDM that came out helped me a lot. I can say I’ve won in getting justice.”

Despite slow progress in the investigation, Mr. Aloba remains hopeful:

“I want justice, but even if the government doesn’t do anything, God will judge them all.”

Background: The Death That Sparked Global Outrage

Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances that triggered nationwide protests and international calls for accountability under the viral hashtag #JusticeForMohbad.

Previously signed to Marlian Music, owned by Naira Marley, Mohbad left the label in 2022 amid allegations of assault, unpaid royalties, and threats to his life.

Following his death, disturbing videos surfaced showing Mohbad being harassed by individuals allegedly linked to his former associates.

On September 21, 2023, Lagos State Police exhumed Mohbad’s body and initiated an autopsy. However, in May 2024, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho, announced that the toxicology test conducted in the United States was inconclusive.
