Nigeria Reaffirms Strong Bilateral Ties with Ghana Amid Strained Citizen Relations

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Ghana, emphasizing collaboration at both the government and grassroots levels.

This reassurance was conveyed by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, in a statement released on Wednesday by her Special Assistant on Communication and New Media, Dr. Magnus Eze.

The minister is currently on a two-day working visit to Ghana, aimed at addressing recent tensions affecting relations between Nigerian and Ghanaian citizens.

As part of her diplomatic engagements, Odumegwu-Ojukwu is expected to hold high-level meetings with key stakeholders, including the President of Ghana, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, traditional rulers, and representatives of the Nigerian community residing in the country.

According to Eze, the visit is part of Nigeria’s proactive efforts to safeguard the lives, properties, and business interests of Nigerians living in Ghana, while also promoting mutual respect and cooperation between the two West African nations.

Shortly after she arrived at Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Tuesday evening, Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu met with Ghana’s Inspector-General of Police, Christian Yohuno, to discuss security and community concerns.

Her engagements continued through Wednesday with discussions involving Ghanaian officials and leaders of the Nigerian diaspora. The minister is expected to return to Abuja on Thursday.
