Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated ₦10 million to St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, Anambra State, in celebration of the school’s recent victory at the inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Championship.
Obi paid a visit to the school on Thursday to personally congratulate the students and staff for their exceptional performance, commending them for bringing honour not only to Anambra State but to the entire nation.
“In recognition of their brilliance and to support their continued growth, I presented the school with a ₦10 million donation towards infrastructural development,” Obi announced in a post on his official X account on Friday.
He emphasized the need to foster strong learning environments that prepare Nigerian children to compete globally. “Their victory is not just for Ukwulu—it’s a win for all Nigerian youths,” he said.
Obi encouraged the students to continue striving for excellence and reminded them that the country’s future lies in their hands.
He also applauded the dedication of the teachers and school administrators, noting that their work proves schools in rural areas can achieve world-class results when properly supported.
Special praise was reserved for the school’s proprietor, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma (popularly known as Fr. Ebube Muonso), whose leadership Obi described as both visionary and morally grounded.
“The team at St. John Vianney exemplifies what Nigerian youths can achieve when given the right foundation,” Obi said. “I am deeply inspired by their discipline, eloquence, and intellect. May their success continue to inspire many more across the country.”
