Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, has urged his supporters to dedicate their birthday gifts and goodwill gestures toward supporting the poor and vulnerable in society.

Speaking from Rome, Italy, on Sunday, Obi expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming show of love he received as he turned 64 on Saturday, July 19, 2025. He used the opportunity to reinforce his long-standing philosophy of simplicity and service to humanity.

“I sincerely thank everyone for the outpouring of goodwill and birthday wishes I received worldwide,” he said.

The former governor of Anambra State emphasized that he does not indulge in extravagant celebrations, instead preferring that such occasions be used to uplift the underprivileged and strengthen community service.

Obi specially thanked Nigerian youths, the Obidient Movement, and charitable organizations like the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for marking his birthday with acts of kindness and solidarity events across various parts of the world.

“I remain deeply grateful to all who marked the day in one way or another, especially Nigerian youths, the Obidient family, and members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul,” he added.

His statement has been widely praised as another testament to his humility and commitment to social justice.
