Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has raised concerns over the state of the newly refurbished Bola Tinubu International Conference Center (ICC) in Abuja, despite claims that N39 billion was spent on its renovation.
President Bola Tinubu commissioned the renovated facility in June 2025, following the project led by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Originally built in 1991 under the Babangida administration, the ICC was renamed after President Tinubu following the costly renovation.
Speaking during a press briefing, Wike claimed that the revamped center has already generated N700 million in revenue. However, Adeyanju’s recent visit painted a starkly different picture.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, July 20, Adeyanju said he attended a birthday event at the ICC and was deeply disappointed by the condition of the venue. He revealed that air conditioners were not working, and suggested that far less than the reported amount was actually spent on the upgrade.
“I’m not sure even N5 billion was used for repairs,” Adeyanju wrote.
His post has since sparked public outrage and reignited conversations around transparency, project auditing, and government accountability regarding public spending.
