President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Tanko Umaru Al-Makura, former governor of Nasarawa State, as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
The appointment was announced by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, on Tuesday during the launch of the AFD-supported ICT Development Project in 10 selected Nigerian universities.
Al-Makura, a seasoned businessman and politician, is widely recognized for initiating major developmental projects during his tenure as governor of Nasarawa State.
UBEC, which operates under the Federal Ministry of Education, is a key intervention agency responsible for coordinating and disbursing counterpart funding to support basic education delivery across Nigeria.
The appointment is seen as part of President Tinubu’s broader strategy to strengthen educational infrastructure and governance nationwide.
