Sean Kingston’s Mother Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Fraud

Janice Turner, mother of singer Sean Kingston, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison and three years of supervised release over her involvement in a multimillion-dollar fraud scheme. Turner, along with her son, was earlier found guilty of multiple fraud-related charges, with authorities stating that the pair allegedly defrauded over 20 individuals.

In addition to her sentence, Turner has been ordered to pay restitution to the victims, although the exact amount has yet to be determined. Her attorney, Humberto Dominguez, expressed mixed emotions about the outcome, noting they had partial victories and setbacks, which may be challenged on appeal. “Overall, the judge tried to do what was right and what was fair,” he said.

Turner had pleaded for leniency, requesting a 30-month sentence—significantly less than the recommended 63 to 78 months—but the court rejected the plea. She may also face deportation to Jamaica following the completion of her sentence.

Meanwhile, Sean Kingston remains on house arrest after posting bond. His sentencing is set for August 28. He could face up to six and a half years in prison if the court agrees with prosecutors’ request to factor in a broader scope of financial harm in its ruling. According to AllHipHop, prosecutors argue that the initial report did not fully account for all victims or the total monetary losses, and they are pushing for Kingston to repay $1.17 million in restitution.
