Starlink, the satellite internet service owned by SpaceX, experienced a major worldwide outage on Thursday, leaving tens of thousands of users without connectivity.
According to outage tracking site Downdetector, reports surged around 3:30 PM ET, peaking at nearly 60,000 incidents. The disruption affected users across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Kenya, and several other regions, confirming the outage was global in scale.
Users on social media and forums like Reddit also reported losing service, with many receiving an in-app message stating, “Starlink is currently experiencing a service outage. Our team is investigating.”
Although the outage lasted approximately 45 minutes before services began to recover, SpaceX has not yet released a detailed explanation. The company is currently working to determine the root cause.
This marks one of the largest disruptions Starlink has faced to date, raising concerns about the reliability of the satellite internet network, especially as it becomes more widely adopted in remote and underserved areas around the world.
