The Super Falcons of Nigeria have arrived in Abuja to a hero’s welcome following their dramatic victory over Morocco in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Touching down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 2:26 PM on a chartered flight, the reigning African champions were received by an enthusiastic crowd, including top government dignitaries such as the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris; Minister of Culture and Tourism, Hanatu Musawa; and Minister for Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim.
The triumphant team is set to parade the coveted WAFCON trophy through the streets of Abuja in an open-top bus before heading to the Presidential Villa for a reception with President Bola Tinubu.
In a thrilling final on Saturday, Nigeria staged a sensational comeback to defeat host nation Morocco 3–2.
Down 2–0 at halftime after goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Mssoudy, the Falcons roared back in the second half.
Okoronkwo converted a penalty in the 63rd minute, then assisted Ijamilusi’s equalizer in the 71st. The match-winner came in the 88th minute through Echegini’s close-range strike.
With this victory, Nigeria extends its flawless record in WAFCON finals—10 wins in 10 appearances—further solidifying their status as Africa’s most dominant women’s football team.
