Oscar-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson is headed to Broadway in Spring 2026, making her stage debut in a highly anticipated revival of August Wilson’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.
Henson, best known for her powerful roles in Empire, Hidden Figures, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, will be joined by Cedric the Entertainer, a six-time NAACP Image Award winner who is making his return to the theater after more than a decade.
The production will be directed by the legendary Debbie Allen, promising a show-stopping interpretation of Wilson’s classic. Allen’s influence adds an extra layer of anticipation, as she brings her celebrated vision and depth to the storytelling.
This return to the stage is a full-circle moment for Henson, a proud graduate of Howard University, where she studied theater.
While her career has spanned television, film, and activism, this marks her Broadway debut, reaffirming her roots in live performance.
Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, one of August Wilson’s most critically acclaimed plays, explores African American identity and spiritual displacement in early 20th-century Pittsburgh.
With a cast of this caliber and Allen at the helm, the 2026 revival is already being hailed as a must-see event for Broadway fans and theater lovers alike.
