“This Generation Has No Superstars” – Doechii sparks debate

Doechii

Rising rap sensation and self-proclaimed “Swamp Princess,” Doechii has stirred spirited discourse across social media after a bold statement made during her cover feature for British Vogue’s August 2025 issue.

Gracing the pages in stunning high-fashion ensembles by Balenciaga, Dior, and Stella McCartney, the GRAMMY-winning rapper opened up about her next album, her evolving image, and the state of modern stardom. But it was her unfiltered take on today’s celebrity landscape that ignited the most chatter.

“We don’t really have a superstar of this generation just yet, because there hasn’t been enough time,” Doechii (born Jaylah Hickmon) told British Vogue.
“When I look at pop culture right now, I’m just trying to figure out, ‘OK, what does a Doechii superstar look like? What does it take to make that?’ I have no clue.”

The remark struck a chord online, prompting fans to defend their favorites and challenge Doechii’s claim. Stan groups quickly rallied behind artists like Chloe Bailey, Tyla, GloRilla, Sabrina Carpenter, Cardi B, Normani, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, and Chappell Roan, citing their commercial success and cultural impact.

While some applauded Doechii’s introspection as a refreshing take on the ever-shifting definition of superstardom, others labeled it dismissive of peers who have achieved global recognition and acclaim.

Despite the storm of reactions, Doechii has yet to respond publicly, letting her British Vogue words—and the heated debate they sparked—speak for themselves.
