President Tinubu Says He Almost Skipped Watching Super Falcons Final to Avoid High Blood Pressure

Fatima Alkali Declines Nomination to Nigerian Law Reform Commission

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed that he nearly avoided watching the final match of the Super Falcons at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) due to concerns for his health.

Speaking on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he hosted the victorious Nigerian women’s football team, President Tinubu disclosed that the emotional intensity of the game made him hesitant.

“Honestly, I did not want to watch the match. I didn’t want high blood pressure,” he said.
“But people came into my room and turned on my TV to that channel. When it was 2-0, I got very restless and very offended. But I was still there watching. I was impressed by the indomitable spirit of resilience, determination and courage of the team.”

The Super Falcons pulled off an incredible comeback in Saturday’s WAFCON final, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2 in Rabat, securing a historic 10th WAFCON title — the most in African women’s football history.
