Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly interfering in opposition party affairs while neglecting Nigeria’s deepening economic and security challenges.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku condemned Tinubu’s mockery of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) during the APC’s 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. He accused the President of using state resources to weaken opposition parties and push Nigeria toward a one-party system.
The statement claimed that Tinubu is more preoccupied with securing re-election in 2027 than addressing the pressing needs of ordinary Nigerians. It also criticized him for allegedly fueling internal divisions within the opposition coalition, particularly between supporters of Atiku and Labour Party’s Peter Obi—an effort it said had backfired.
“Rather than meddling in the affairs of the ADC, the President should focus on fixing Nigeria’s collapsing economy and the growing rift with Vice President Kashim Shettima,” the statement read.
Atiku further alleged that anti-corruption agencies and government institutions were being used to intimidate opposition leaders into defecting to the APC. He described the APC-led government as “directionless, incompetent, and disconnected from the real suffering of Nigerians,” citing worsening hunger, insecurity, and poverty.
He urged President Tinubu to end the political distractions and prioritize national development.
