Nigerian DJ and reality star Tolani Baj has addressed the backlash following her absence on stage during a recent event in Halifax, Canada, clarifying that technical issues—not unprofessionalism—led to the performance mishap.
The former Big Brother Naija housemate issued a detailed statement via her Instagram page, revealing that the show was marred by a lack of a mandatory sound check, which prevented her from performing as scheduled.
“I was booked for a show, I showed up excited and fully ready to perform—there’s visible proof of that on my page,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, because a sound check wasn’t conducted (which is a standard part of my contract), a technical issue with the controller went unnoticed until it was time for me to play.”
Event Changes and Accusations
Tolani Baj further disclosed that the original day party was rescheduled to a night show due to weather-related venue delays, compounding the logistical challenges.
Responding to accusations of theft and no-show behavior made by the event promoter, she said:
“It’s quite disappointing to be called names or accused of theft when I was present at the venue and ready to deliver.”
She also clarified that she received only 50% of her booking fee, and accepted the outcome professionally, stating:
“I was paid only half of my fee, which I accepted, because I understand things happen.”
On Blocking the Promoter
Addressing the claim that she blocked the event organizer, Tolani Baj confirmed doing so, explaining it was for her mental well-being:
“After receiving derogatory comments from him and his crew on my page, I chose to block them for my mental peace.”
Canadian Tour Still a Success
Despite the Halifax controversy, the DJ highlighted the success of her ongoing Canadian tour:
“I’ve performed at 8 successful shows in Canada, all filled with love, energy, and proof of how good I am at my job.”
