“We’ve Buried the Next Generation” – Tacha Akide Criticizes Nigerian Youths

Tacha Akide Criticizes Nigerian Youths

Reality TV star and media personality Tacha Akide has sparked strong reactions on social media after criticizing Nigerian youths, labeling them cowardly and distracted.

In a post shared on her X (formerly Twitter) page, Tacha expressed disappointment over what she described as the lack of political courage and national interest among her generation. She accused young Nigerians of prioritizing comfort, social media content, and relocation (“Japa”) over national development and activism.

“Listen, my generation of Nigerians is the dumb*st and most cowardly. Funny how we blame the ones before us for ruining Nigeria, but at least they had the guts to fight,” she wrote.

She referenced former President Muhammadu Buhari, who as a young officer was involved in a military coup, arguing that past generations were willing to fight for their beliefs — unlike many of today’s youth.

“Buhari in his 20s was part of a coup fighting for what he believed in. But what’s today’s 20-year-olds up to? Japa.”

“We’ve Not Just Failed the Next Generation… We’ve Buried It”

Tacha’s message took an even sharper tone as she lamented the perceived failure of her generation to engage in national discourse or demand accountability from leaders.

“We’ve not just failed the next generation… we’ve buried it. Young Nigerians back then were bold enough to insert themselves in national power. Today? We insert ourselves into visa queues, banger tweets, and vibes.”

Anticipating backlash, she addressed critics who might question her own contribution.

“Y’all ask ‘what have you done?’ I’ve used my voice. I speak, I show up, I don’t stay silent. This tweet was never about me. It’s about a whole generation that’s too scared to sacrifice comfort for country.”

Reactions Mixed Online

Tacha’s comments have triggered a flurry of responses, with some commending her bravery, while others called her out for generalizing and shaming young Nigerians navigating a broken system.

Her remarks come at a time when mass youth emigration, fueled by economic instability and insecurity, continues to dominate headlines across Nigeria.

As the debate unfolds, one thing remains clear: Tacha’s bold call-out has sparked a necessary — and emotional — conversation about youth responsibility, patriotism, and the future of Nigeria.
