Popular Nigerian skit maker and actor, Zic Saloma (real name Aloma Isaac Junior), has called out online bullies who made insensitive remarks about his elderly mother during his recent movie premiere.
In a video shared online, the comedian revealed that his mother — who is over 70 years old and currently battling cancer — insisted on attending the event despite her health challenges. Zic Saloma expressed gratitude that she was recovering well after chemotherapy, but was deeply hurt by social media users who mocked her appearance.
“Some people said her nose is too big and asked, ‘Why you no do surgery for her?’ Others called her ugly,” he lamented.
Zic Saloma condemned the lack of empathy among today’s youth, saying:
“She’s over 70 and fighting a terminal illness. I wish those making these comments would get to 70 and look as good as she does.”
While acknowledging the kind and supportive messages from fans, the actor noted that the volume of hurtful comments far outweighed the positive ones.
“This generation is finished. People reason like this and we expect good governance? We expect to fight tribalism or religious bias?”
The actor emphasized that although such comments don’t usually get to him, targeting his ailing mother crossed the line.
