Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo arrived at the Umaru Musa Yaradua Airport in Katsina on Tuesday afternoon to attend the state burial of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in London at age 82 after a prolonged illness.
Osinbajo, who served alongside Buhari from 2015 to 2023, was received by top government officials, security personnel, and members of the presidential burial committee. Dressed in a white agbada and cap, his presence further underscores the outpouring of respect for the late former leader.
In a heartfelt tribute earlier, Osinbajo described Buhari as:
“A man of deep integrity, discipline, and selfless service to Nigeria.”
The late President’s body was flown into Katsina earlier on a Nigerian Air Force aircraft, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive.
The funeral prayer is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Emir’s Palace in Daura, followed by interment in accordance with Islamic rites.
In Buhari’s honour, the Federal Government declared Tuesday a public holiday and announced a seven-day national mourning period, during which flags are flying at half-mast across Nigeria and at embassies worldwide.
