“It’s Not Justice, He Used Our Blood to Secure His Legacy” – Seun Kuti Reacts to Buhari’s Death

Afrobeat artist Seun Kuti, son of the late Fela Kuti, has reacted to the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, stating that the former leader may have harmed his family, but dying at old age is not justice.

During a live Instagram video on Tuesday, Seun criticized Nigerians celebrating Buhari’s death, asserting that true justice was never served for the alleged crimes and suffering endured by many under Buhari’s leadership.

“That an old man has died in old age after using our blood to secure the financial future of his generations is not justice,” Seun said.
“Nobody watching this live can say their family suffered under Buhari like mine.”

Seun Kuti, whose family was reportedly targeted during Buhari’s military regime in the 1980s, further questioned why Buhari was never held legally accountable:

“Did you charge him in court for his crime? Why do you think an old man dying of old age is justice?”

He also condemned the use of taxpayers’ funds to finance Buhari’s foreign medical care, claiming:

“Over £3,000 was spent every month for his treatment in the UK while Nigerians are dying in public hospitals.”

Despite the deep pain and generational trauma, Kuti emphasized that he does not celebrate Buhari’s death:

“Buhari killed my friends. He killed better men than me. Men who should still be alive.”

Buhari died on Sunday at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness and is being buried Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites.
