“Fela Fed Thousands” Seun Kuti Fires Back At VeryDarkMan, Mocks ‘Yeye Charity’

Seun Kuti Fires Back At VeryDarkMan, Mocks ‘Yeye Charity’

Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has reignited controversy surrounding his disagreement with social media activist VeryDarkMan after issuing a fresh statement that has stirred intense reactions online.

In his latest response, Seun pushed back against critics trying to provoke him by referencing his late father, Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, insisting that such attacks cannot shake him.

“I am Fela’s son, there is nothing you can say about Fela that would make me react because all these things have been said to me before,” he said.

But it was his swipe at VeryDarkMan’s style of activism that has generated even bigger reactions.

Comparing his father’s legacy with what he described as performative charity, Seun took aim at the activist’s public interventions.

“Fela fed thousands of people, unlike borehole and yeye charity VeryDarkMan is doing,” he added.

The remarks have further fueled the growing war of words between the two men, drawing support and criticism from opposing camps online.

What began as part of a wider dispute involving VeryDarkMan and businessman Blord has now evolved into a broader ideological clash over activism, social justice and public charity.

The controversy gained even more traction after activist Omoyele Sowore entered the conversation, expanding what had initially been an online disagreement into a broader debate involving multiple voices in Nigeria’s activist and entertainment spaces.

At the heart of the disagreement now is more than personal tension.

It has become a debate over competing visions of activism, with Seun appearing to defend traditional radical political engagement while criticising what he sees as social media-driven charity activism.

His latest remarks have since sparked fierce reactions, with some applauding him for defending Fela’s legacy and challenging what they call performative activism, while others accuse him of unfairly dismissing social interventions that have helped ordinary Nigerians.

With neither side backing down, Seun Kuti’s fresh comments have only intensified a feud that continues to dominate online conversations.
