Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has stirred reactions after weighing in on the tension involving activist Omoyele Sowore, social commentator VeryDarkMan and the controversy surrounding businessman Blord.
In remarks now making the rounds online, Seun Kuti said he had personally reached out to both Sowore and VeryDarkMan to offer advice, but claimed his counsel was ignored.
The singer made it clear he would not support anything he believes could damage Sowore’s political future, declaring that he would not allow “Ratels” to spoil what he described as Sowore’s presidency.
“I can never allow Ratels to spoil Sowore’s presidency,” Seun said.
Speaking further, he addressed claims that Sowore was allegedly defending Blord despite accusations against the businessman, pushing back against the criticism and insisting that due process should be respected.
“They said Sowore is fighting for Blord, that he’s a thief and a scammer. Everybody is innocent until proven guilty,” he said.
Seun also questioned the way investigations are handled in Nigeria, arguing that people should not have to be imprisoned before allegations can be properly investigated.
“Must we be in prison for police to investigate the case? Seize my passport if you think I’ll run,” he added.
Drawing from personal experience, the musician said he, Sowore and VeryDarkMan have all faced what he considers unfair treatment from authorities at different times.
He also used the moment to raise broader concerns about justice in the country, questioning why many violent criminals appear to escape accountability.
“How many terrorists and kidnappers have been prosecuted and jailed?” he asked.
His comments have since sparked debate online, especially as they touch on the growing friction between activists and supporters involved in the controversy.
Some have praised Seun for defending due process and speaking against what he sees as selective justice, while others argue his intervention adds another layer to an already heated public disagreement.
With Sowore, VeryDarkMan and Blord all drawing strong opinions online, Seun Kuti’s remarks have now pushed the conversation even further into the spotlight.
