Pop icon Britney Spears has opened up about her marriage to model-actor Sam Asghari, describing it as a “fake distraction” during one of the most difficult periods of her life.
In an emotional Instagram post on Sunday, the 43-year-old singer reflected on her struggles between 2022 and 2024, when she was estranged from her sons, Sean (19) and Jayden (18), whom she shares with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
“We’re just people so fragile and human. The hardest years of my life were my two sons gone for those 3 years. I was cut off from calling or texting… me and Sam were married but it almost felt like a fake distraction to help me deal with it,” Britney wrote.
Her marriage to Asghari lasted from June 2022 until May 2024.
The Toxic hitmaker, who has previously spoken about the trauma of her conservatorship (which ended in 2021), said denial and tears were her coping mechanisms during that time.
Britney Spears also revealed she is now learning to enjoy food again as part of her healing journey:
“I know I’m healing because I’m hungry again like a child or baby… My soul has never experienced food like this a day in my life… so silly and embarrassing I’m going to eat cookies and cream ice cream now… God bless you all.”
While Britney Spears appears to be rebuilding her relationship with her children, Sam Asghari, 31, has not responded to her post.
