Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho, has alleged that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) invaded his Ibadan home in 2021 with the intention of killing him.
Igboho, who was declared wanted after confronting Fulani herders accused of killing farmers in the South-West, as well as leading the Yoruba Nation agitation, said divine intervention saved his life on the night of the raid.
On July 1, 2021, DSS operatives stormed his residence in Oyo State in a bid to arrest him. Although he escaped the operation, the activist later fled to the Benin Republic, where he was arrested at an airport while attempting to travel to Germany. He subsequently faced trial before regaining freedom following interventions from Nigerian leaders.
Speaking during a visit to the palace of the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, Igboho recounted that he narrowly escaped death during the invasion.
“When my house was invaded, they wanted to kill me but failed. Some said my intestines were shattered, others said my leg was broken, but there was nothing of such. They fired guns at me very well, but the prayers of you, my fathers, on me were answered,” he said.
Igboho’s fresh claims rekindle memories of the controversial raid, which left parts of his home destroyed and some of his aides arrested.
