Kid Cudi has revealed that he “hated every minute” of testifying in Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ trial earlier this year.
Speaking on Wednesday’s episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, the Day ‘n’ Nite rapper shared that he initially turned down the request to testify twice before being served with a subpoena compelling him to appear in court.
Kid Cudi was called as a witness in the high-profile New York trial because of his brief relationship in the early 2010s with Cassie Ventura, Combs’ ex and a key witness in the case.
“I hated every minute of it,” the 41-year-old, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, said.
“I did not want to do it, but then I thought about – when I was up there – I’m here to support Cassie… Cassie is my friend, and I love her and I want to see her do well.”
Combs, 55, faced charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He was found guilty on two counts of the latter charge but acquitted of the others.
During his testimony, Cudi alleged that Combs was “abusive” toward Cassie and claimed the rapper broke into his home while he was dating her. He further alleged that after their split, Combs set fire to his Porsche.
“I’ve always just wanted to see her thrive and do well and be happy. I know she was living a nightmare,” Kid Cudi continued.
“I just was there to support her. That’s what, kind of, gave me peace with it. When I sat down in that chair, it was just about, ‘Damn, I don’t want to do this.’ To being like, ‘Oh man, I got to hold homegirl down and look out for her.'”
Kid Cudi added that he wore blue jeans and a leather jacket to court because he refused to dress up “for this s**t”.
Combs, who has consistently denied the allegations, is currently in prison awaiting sentencing on 3 October.
