Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1 (K1 De Ultimate), has addressed the controversy surrounding an incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, describing reports of misconduct as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Thursday by his media aide, Kunle Rasheed, the music icon refuted claims that he violated aviation protocols or attempted to obstruct the departure of a ValueJet flight on August 5, 2025.
“Reports suggesting that King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal displayed unruly conduct are not only exaggerated but entirely misleading,” the statement read.
Kwam 1 Explains His Side
According to Kwam 1, the incident stemmed from a plain bottle of drinking water handed to him at the airport lounge — not alcohol or any restricted substance, as some reports have suggested. He said his attempt to politely explain this to airport personnel was met with unnecessary escalation.
“Claims that K1 blocked the aircraft or disrupted operations are completely unfounded,” the statement continued. “As a frequent international traveler, he understands and strictly complies with aviation rules.”
Kwam 1 noted that only he and his personal assistant were involved in the exchange, and said fellow passengers encouraged him to remain calm during the situation.
Airline Officials Apologized, Kwam 1 Claims
In a surprising revelation, Kwam 1 said top ValueJet executives, including the Chairman and Managing Director, reached out to apologize and even offered to fly him privately to Lagos after the incident — an offer he declined.
“If there had truly been any misconduct, the airline’s top management and aviation authorities wouldn’t have reached out to apologise or arrange a complimentary private flight,” he said.
He also responded to reports that the pilot involved has now been suspended by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for procedural violations. He accused the pilot of attempting to shift blame by misrepresenting the situation.
“It’s no surprise she might lie to cover herself,” the statement alleged.
Call for Calm Amid Ongoing Probe
Kwam 1 urged the media and public to avoid sensationalism and allow the ongoing investigation by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to run its course. The incident has since sparked public conversations about celebrity behavior, airport security, and airline accountability.
