New Zealand Post Suspends Most Deliveries to U.S. Ahead of Trump’s Tariff Hike

New Zealand’s postal service, NZ Post, has announced the suspension of most deliveries to the United States, citing uncertainty surrounding the impact of President Donald Trump’s new tariffs.

According to a statement on the carrier’s website, the suspension took effect on August 21, just days before the U.S. is set to enforce a 15 percent tariff on small packages starting August 29.

While regular parcel services have been halted, NZ Post confirmed that only essential correspondence — including letters, passports, and legal documents — will still be delivered to the United States.

The decision follows similar actions by postal services in India, Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, and Denmark.

Those countries also suspended certain services following the Trump administration’s announcement that it would abolish a long-standing tax exemption on low-value packages entering the U.S.

NZ Post said it is “working quickly” to adapt its operations and expressed hope that full delivery services to the U.S. will resume “as soon as possible.”
