A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Femi Babalola, popularly known as Jogor, has thrown his weight behind Governor Seyi Makinde, describing him as the perfect presidential candidate for the party in the 2027 general elections.

Babalola, speaking during an interview with newsmen on Tuesday, commended Makinde’s leadership and developmental strides in Oyo State, noting that his track record across all sectors makes him a credible and competent option to “right the noticeable wrongs” currently facing Nigeria.

He criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of failing Nigerians with unfulfilled promises. According to him, “The APC is known for failed and empty promises, a testament to the prevailing hunger in all the states of the federation.”

The PDP stalwart stressed that Nigeria needs a leader with fresh ideas and innovative solutions, insisting that Makinde stands out among all potential presidential hopefuls.

“Makinde, of all the aspiring candidates for the number one position in the country, has all it takes to lead the country,” Babalola asserted.

He further noted that by 2027, Governor Makinde would have completed two terms as governor, giving him eight years of executive experience and an edge over many other contenders.

“Governor Makinde has performed creditably well. Though there may be some deficiencies, nobody in the world can score 100 percent in governance. I think he has done well compared to past governors,” he said.

On his own political future, Babalola hinted at the possibility of contesting for Oyo governorship in 2027, depending on the calibre of candidates that emerge.

“I’m watching the candidates that are coming out to show interest in contesting for governor in Oyo State. If I’m not satisfied with the calibre of the candidates, I might be forced to contest in 2027,” he said.

He added that his priority remains supporting credible candidates who are genuinely committed to the growth of the state and the party, warning against opportunists seeking to exploit the system.

Babalola also highlighted the PDP’s historical dominance in Oyo politics, stressing that the state has remained a stronghold of the party since 2003.

Reacting to the PDP’s reported decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, the party leader expressed full support, saying: “If the party feels that the game is to present a southern candidate, it’s good for us. I’m in full support of it. Let it be South versus South.”
