Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has admitted that the club was not prepared to compete in European tournaments such as the Champions League, Europa League, or Conference League this season.
The former Sporting CP boss explained that his team needed more time to build a solid foundation before facing Europe’s elite clubs.
United endured a disappointing campaign last season, finishing 15th in the Premier League and missing out on a Champions League spot after losing 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim said:
“I think we were not prepared to play in Europe. That is my feeling. To have strong games in the Champions League and then play in the Premier League, we need time to develop as a team. We need time to prepare for every game.”
Meanwhile, Amorim’s men are set to face Grimsby Town at Blundell Park in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.
