Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has dismissed comments made by Liverpool boss Arne Slot, following United’s 2–1 victory at Anfield last weekend.
Slot had suggested that Amorim’s side relied heavily on “low blocks and long balls” during the game — remarks that appeared to question United’s tactical approach.
United secured the win after Harry Maguire headed home a late winner, overturning Liverpool’s equaliser from Cody Gakpo, which had cancelled out Bryan Mbeumo’s early goal.
Reacting ahead of United’s upcoming clash with Brighton, Amorim made it clear that he was uninterested in Slot’s assessment.
“Liverpool is in the past, I don’t want to comment. That is not important,” he said. “Important is what Fabian [Hürzeler] said to try to understand what is going to happen [against Brighton].”
The Portuguese tactician added that he is proud of his team’s adaptability but acknowledged the need for improvement in ball possession.
“I understand everything. I am really pleased that the team can play different games,” Amorim noted. “It was an important win, but I was the first to say that we need to play better with the ball. So, I don’t care what Slot is saying, or what people are saying about our team.”
Amorim concluded by reaffirming his focus on United’s next fixture.
“I can evaluate my team, and I am really clear that we should play better with the ball. We are going to try to do that in this game.”
