Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand and his wife, TV personality Kate Ferdinand, have officially bid farewell to the UK as they embark on a new life in Dubai.
The couple, who already boast a combined net worth of over £57 million, revealed on Instagram that they are “scared, excited and nervous” about the move but eager for a “fresh start” in the city where they first met eight years ago.
Speaking to Daily Mail, Intertalent chairman Professor Jonathan Shalit OBE shared that the move could unlock even greater opportunities for the Ferdinands.
He explained that combining Rio’s “elite sporting heritage” with the couple’s “relatable nature as parents” could pave the way for lucrative partnerships in fashion, tourism, real estate, and digital ventures such as parenting workshops.
The Ferdinands, both of whom have already built strong personal brands in the UK, command large followings on social media.
Rio has fronted campaigns with McDonald’s and BBC Children in Need, focusing on mental health, while Kate has led inclusive fashion collections with Tesco’s F&F and collaborated with Nando’s alongside her husband.
“Together, they’ve become trusted, relatable voices, defined by honesty, family, and aspirational relatability,” Shalit noted. He further praised Kate for the remarkable role she has played in raising Rio’s children following the passing of his first wife, Rebecca Ellison, in 2015—a role that has deepened public admiration for her.
Rio and Kate are parents to four-year-old Cree and two-year-old Shae, while Kate is also stepmother to Rio’s teenage children—Lorenz, Tate, 17, and Tia, 14.
