The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended Rivers State Governor, as a member of its 2025 National Convention Organising Committee.
Fubara, who was suspended on March 18, 2025, under an emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu, remains on suspension until September 17, 2025. Despite this, his name appeared on the list of members chosen to prepare for the party’s upcoming national convention.
The PDP announced that Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, will serve as chairman of the 1,100-member committee, while Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, was appointed deputy chairman. Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, will act as secretary.
According to the party, the committee’s formation followed resolutions adopted at its last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The elective national convention is scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Other notable members of the committee include former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, PDP Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, and PDP Board of Trustees Chairman Adolphus Wabara, among others.
Just last week, the party also established a 44-member zoning committee, led by Governor Douye Diri, with Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal serving as deputy. That committee is expected to recommend how key positions, including the national chairmanship, will be zoned between the North and South.
In line with the PDP’s long-standing rotation policy, if the national chairmanship is zoned to the North, the presidential ticket will go to the South, and vice versa.
