Authorities in Los Angeles have launched an investigation into a swatting incident that disrupted DDG’s live-streamed paintball tournament on Sunday. A Sheriff’s spokesperson confirmed that the department is working to identify the person responsible for the fake 911 call.
According to reports, the caller falsely claimed that “a male adult was brandishing and shooting a firearm, threatening to harm everyone around him,” prompting heavily armed officers to rush to the scene. DDG, who was still streaming, was detained during the response. Fortunately, no one was injured.
DDG’s manager and legal representative, Dimitri Hurt, condemned the act, telling TMZ Hip Hop:
“The anonymous caller fabricated a claim that DDG was armed and threatening people, which led to an unnecessary and heavily armed police response to a peaceful paintball live stream event… This reckless and malicious act disrupted the tournament, caused unnecessary panic among attendees, and put everyone present — including law enforcement — in harm’s way.”
He added that the rapper was “deeply shaken” by the ordeal, describing the experience as “incredibly distressing and traumatizing,” and stressing that while no physical harm occurred, the emotional toll and damage to the event were significant.
Swatting — the act of making false police reports to provoke a large-scale law enforcement response — has increasingly targeted celebrities in recent years. Kanye West’s former assistant, Lauren Pisciotta, recently accused the rapper of using the tactic against her, though West’s representatives have denied the claims, calling them “absurd and outlandish.”
