American hip-hop star Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., popularly known as DDG, has criticised what he described as Western media propaganda about Nigeria, insisting the country is far safer than it is often portrayed.
The rapper, who is currently holidaying in Lagos, said Nigeria is “nowhere near” as dangerous as the United States, contrary to popular narratives abroad.
Speaking in a video broadcast, DDG urged foreigners to visit Nigeria and experience the country firsthand rather than relying on negative portrayals.
“I honestly think America is the most dangerous country. I don’t think Nigeria is as dangerous as America – nowhere near,” he said.
While acknowledging that Nigeria has its security challenges, the rapper noted that gun violence and gangsterism are far more prevalent in the United States.
“No doubt, there is insecurity in Nigeria. But gun violence and gangsterism is not common in Nigeria as in America. So, if anybody is thinking about coming to Nigeria, pull up,” he added.
DDG also revealed that before visiting Nigeria, he was warned that Nigerian food was unhealthy and advised to boil water before drinking. However, he said his experience proved otherwise, praising Nigerian cuisine and describing jollof rice in particular as very healthy.
