Global Afrobeats star, Tiwa Savage, has spoken candidly about the challenges she faces in the entertainment industry, describing it as one “filled with so much darkness.”
The award-winning singer shared her thoughts during a recent livestream with fans, where she expressed frustration at critics who doubted the success of her new album, This One Is Personal, because it lacked international features and club bangers.
Tiwa Savage revealed that despite the skepticism, her focus has remained on staying true to her artistry, crediting her strength to her faith in God and the unwavering support of her team.
She said:
“My Alpha and Omega, this industry is filled with so much darkness. I wish you guys knew so much, but I thank God that I’ve just kept my eyes on Him. I haven’t fallen. When I put out the track list, I saw so many people saying, ‘Ah, she doesn’t have this person, she’s not featuring that person, she doesn’t have big names from America.’ And they’ve just automatically concluded that because I don’t have that on the album, it’s not gonna be good.”
The singer further explained that her mission has never been about chasing validation or big cosigns but about creating music that resonates deeply.
“I don’t need millions of fans. I just need the right ones, and I have the right ones,” she added.
Tiwa Savage admitted the album’s journey took over two years to complete, with numerous setbacks and doubts from those who believed her vulnerable sound wouldn’t gain traction in a market driven by “club records” and “bangers.”
However, with the release of This One Is Personal, Tiwa reaffirmed her determination to make music that reflects her truth and artistry, rather than conforming to industry pressures.
This industry is filled with so much darkness but I thank God I’ve kept my eyes on him. A lot of people criticize why I didn’t have A-list on the album, well it is what I’ve I’ll give.”
