The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged residents to rally behind leaders aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stressing that government listens to and works with such figures.

Wike made the call on Thursday during the flag-off of Lot 2 of the Karu Water Supply Project, where he commended former FCT Senator Philip Aduda and the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, for bringing visible development to their people.

Promising to construct a 2km road in Karu site at Aduda’s request, Wike praised both men for their capacity to leverage access to government in order to deliver projects.

“Support those who have capacity to bring something to the people. Support those that government will listen to,” the minister told the crowd.

He further described Maikalangu as “very good and hardworking”, noting the chairman’s role in attracting key projects such as the Saburi Road, Kabusa–Takushere Road, and Deidei Road.

“Anything he tells us, we will do. If he wins as AMAC chairman, we will give him whatever he wants. I don’t know his party; I only know that he supports Tinubu. Anybody who supports Tinubu, I will support him,” Wike declared.

The minister also criticized past administrations for failing to provide basic amenities in satellite towns, particularly water, pointing out that Tinubu’s government had now delivered on its promise to Karu.

“Have we come now to give you water? So, you believe you have a covenant with this government. Agreement is agreement. The people of Karu will remember the government that remembered them,” he added.

Aduda, a long-serving senator under the PDP until losing his seat in 2023, was praised for still facilitating development in the FCT. Maikalangu, meanwhile, is seeking re-election in February 2026 as AMAC chairman on the platform of the APC, having defected from the PDP in 2024.
