Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has played down speculation surrounding his recent meeting with the club’s co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, insisting it was not a crisis meeting.
United have endured a difficult start to the Premier League campaign, picking up only four points from their opening four fixtures. Their struggles were compounded by an early Carabao Cup exit at the hands of fourth-tier side Grimsby Town.
Since taking charge in November, Amorim has managed just eight wins in 31 league games. Despite the poor run, he has been assured that the club remains committed to a long-term rebuild.
When asked about the meeting with Ratcliffe, Amorim responded with humor:
“A new contract,” before clarifying, “No, it is normal things, just to show the support and explaining that it is a long project.”
United finished last season in 15th place and missed out on Champions League qualification after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.
