Food critic Opeyemi Famakin has fired back at alleged financial expert Gehgeh over his remarks concerning Chef Hilda Baci, telling him bluntly to “learn to shut up” while affirming that “for Hilda, there is love at home.”
His response came after Gehgeh made comments that many online users considered dismissive and insensitive about the support and attention surrounding Hilda’s recent Guinness World Record attempt. Gehgeh reportedly referred to those who attended Hilda’s jollof event in a way that suggested they were “broke and poor.”
The spotlight on Hilda Baci is well deserved. The Nigerian chef, already celebrated for her record-breaking cook-a-thon in 2023, embarked on another remarkable challenge — attempting to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice. As part of the Gino World Jollof Festival in Lagos, Hilda prepared an astonishing 200 bags of rice in a gigantic 22,619-litre pot, which measured about six metres wide and six metres tall.
The event drew thousands of Nigerians, including celebrities and food enthusiasts, who gathered to witness the cultural spectacle and cheer her on. Even though the weighing process was disrupted when the enormous pot collapsed while being lifted, Hilda’s determination and execution turned the attempt into a source of national pride and global attention.
Opeyemi’s sharp words to Gehgeh highlight the importance of celebrating such feats instead of belittling them.
