The convoy of former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), was attacked by suspected political thugs in Birnin Kebbi.
The incident occurred along Old NITEL Road shortly after Malami returned from a condolence visit to the family of the late Chief Imam of Dr. Bello Haliru Jumu’ah Mosque.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers, armed with dangerous weapons, damaged several vehicles in the convoy before security operatives intervened. Officers were later deployed to the scene, the APC state headquarters, and Malami’s residence to forestall further unrest.
Reacting to the incident, Malami described it as unfortunate.
“It’s painful some thugs armed with dangerous weapons and stones, attacked and destroyed vehicles in our convoy,” he said.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) also condemned the assault, with its state Public Relations Officer, Isa Abubakar As-Salafi, pledging an investigation into those behind the attack while appealing for peace in the state.
Following an emergency security meeting at the Government House, Commissioner of Police Bello M. Sani confirmed that an investigation had commenced. He further warned political parties against unauthorized gatherings or campaigns, stressing that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had not yet lifted the ban on political activities.
